I have been hiring manager for around 10 years and I can clearly say that if technical guys begin to ask behavioral or non-technical questions, it shows me that s/he is jealous somehow or would like to be a-hole during the interview in the majority of times. As a result, I always would like to place an observer during technical interviews. I hope that you will find a better option.
